TYPES OF RESPIRATION

1. Aerobic Respiration

  • It needs the presence of O2 and occurs in the mitochondria.
  • Glucose is completely broken down to CO2 and H2O.
  • It releases more energy.
  • it occurs in most organisms (in all higher forms of life ).

2. Anaerobic Respiration

  • Anaerobic respiration occurs in the absence of O2 in the cytoplasm.
  • It results in the incomplete oxidation of glucose into LACTIC ACID (in animals ) or ETHYL ALCOHOL (in plants).
  • It releases lesser energy.
  • It takes place in certain bacteria, yeast,  and certain tissues of higher organisms.
